Sent from the Start
Scripture: Genesis 1:26–28; John 20:21-22 | Date: September 7, 2025
God’s mission did not begin with the church. It began at creation. From the very start, humanity was sent to reflect God’s image.
Genesis shows that God created men and women to multiply, steward creation, and bring order to the world. Being sent is part of our design.
However, sin distorted that mission and instead of reflecting God’s goodness, humanity turned inward. Selfishness, greed, and violence replaced God’s intent. Yet God kept sending.
He sent Abraham, Moses, prophets, and kings to realign His people with His mission until finally, He sent His Son.
Jesus came to reveal the Father, serve others, and seek the lost. After His resurrection, He said, “As the Father sent me, so I send you.”
This calling is not only for missionaries or pastors. Every believer is sent: at work, in schools, in coffee shops, and in homes—we are sent.
Discipleship is not just about receiving. It is about joining God’s movement of love in everyday life. Church is not only a place to gather, but a place to be equipped and sent.
Theologian David Bosch described God as a “fountain of sending love.” Like a river, His love flows outward. To follow Jesus is to step into that current.
When we embrace being sent, we discover joy and purpose. Every relationship becomes an opportunity for God’s love to flow through us.
The question is not, Am I sent? The question is, Where am I sent? God calls each of us to join His mission now.
Dive into the river of God’s love. Trust His Spirit to guide you, because you are sent from the start.
