Faithful from the Very Beginning
The Bible tells the greatest story ever written. It is the story of God’s faithful love from the very beginning. However, it also addresses humanity’s deepest problem: sin. This sermon explores how God responds to sin through His covenant love and ultimate redemption.
The message begins in Genesis with creation. God created humanity in His image and called creation very good. Therefore, people were designed to reflect God’s character and care for the world. Humanity also received blessing, purpose, and relationship with God. This covenant of creation reveals God’s desire for human flourishing.
However, sin quickly disrupted God’s good design. Adam and Eve doubted God and chose disobedience. As a result, sin entered the world and affected every relationship. Fear replaced trust. Shame replaced innocence. Pain and hardship replaced flourishing. Humanity became separated from God.
This brokenness still shapes our lives today. We see sin in the world through conflict, injustice, addiction, and suffering. Yet we also experience sin personally through pride, anger, selfishness, and fear. Although people often try to overcome sin through effort alone, Scripture teaches that human strength is not enough.
The season of Lent invites honest reflection. It encourages believers to confront sin and recognize their need for a Savior. While this process can feel uncomfortable, it leads to hope. God never abandoned humanity after the fall.
Even in Genesis, God promised redemption. He foretold that one day a descendant would defeat evil. Christians understand this promise as pointing to Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death. Therefore, the power of the Son is greater than the power of sin.
Because of Jesus, believers are not powerless. God continues His work through the Holy Spirit. He faithfully completes what He begins in His people. This truth offers encouragement during Lent and beyond.
Ultimately, the sermon reminds listeners that God has always been faithful. From creation to redemption, God's faithful love remains constant. When sin feels overwhelming, hope remains secure in Christ. Believers are invited to trust Him, repent, and embrace the good news.
God’s story did not start with failure. It started with faithfulness. And that faithfulness continues today.
